At Turbo Systems, we take immense pride in seeing our team members grow, thrive, and reach new milestones in their careers. One such success story is that of Izy Brewer, who has recently completed her Business Administration apprenticeship whilst working at Turbo Systems.
Izy continuously demonstrates a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude that make her a valuable part of the Turbo family. Her journey is a great example of how apprenticeships can offer both personal and professional development while gaining real-world experience.
To celebrate this achievement, we caught up with Izy to reflect on her time as an apprentice, the skills she’s developed, and what she’s looking forward to as she takes the next step in her career.
Izy, congratulations on qualifying and coming to the end of your apprenticeship! Tell us a bit about the course you’ve completed and what made you choose that route for the start of your professional career.
Thank you! I have just recently completed a Level 3 Business Admin course. I chose this course because after I left my last job, I helped my mum in her home office with a few tasks, and I really enjoyed it. I helped her book jobs for my Dad and also input information for her on spreadsheets. After this, I started looking into administration apprenticeships, and that's where I came across Turbo.
Take us through a typical day at Turbo for yourself. What are your day-to-day duties?
My day usually starts with checking my emails to see if anything came in late the night before or early that morning. I then address any quotes, orders, or reply to emails that have come through that morning. I will, of course, continue this throughout the day, as we receive many enquiries daily. I will then review our Sage report to determine if any orders can be sent down. Every couple of months, I will go through all the live quotations and contact the customer to check on the order's progress. Each day is very different depending on whether we get any machine jobs through, which we have had a lot of recently. I will also book them on Sage. If we have any samples coming in for trials, I will also book them for the Sales team. Now that I have completed my apprenticeship, I will be getting more involved in the service work too.
What would you say is the most valuable skill or lesson that you’ve learned during your apprenticeship?
I think the most valuable skill/lesson would be to never give up on something, as my apprenticeship took longer than expected, which was something that was out of my hands. There were many times when I thought of giving up, but I kept pushing, and it all worked out in the end, which I’m very proud of myself for!
You’ve been with Turbo Systems for some time now. How have you found it, and how have your team helped you along the way? There’s a wealth of knowledge within the company, isn’t there?
I love working at Turbo Systems, and I think that all comes down to the people. Having nice and funny colleagues to talk to when days get stressful or when you’re not feeling the best definitely makes the job easier for me. They have also helped me every step of the way with my apprenticeship and always gave me the encouragement I needed. There were also some sectors of the course where I needed help from my colleagues, and at every step, they said yes with no hesitation. I also feel that whenever help is needed, someone is always there, even if they don’t know themselves, they'll help find someone who does.
How do you feel you’ve grown personally and professionally since starting your apprenticeship and with Turbo Systems?
I have definitely grown in confidence since starting my apprenticeship, as before Turbo, I was used to small workplaces, so going from that to a company with over 50 staff was quite daunting at first. But I think being surrounded by positive people helps you grow too, as they encourage you to do things you maybe aren’t used to or something out of your comfort zone, and sometimes those are the best things you can do.
And finally, if you could swap jobs with somebody at Turbo for a day, who would it be and why?
If I could swap jobs with someone for a day, I think it would be one of our Sales Managers. They are always out and about in different places and visiting different companies. I found it very interesting when I went to see a customer with Rich, who is our Sales Manager for the North East & East of England. To me, every day would be something different, but I know it would also be a challenging job, which I also like because what’s a job without stress or challenges?
